AWS vs Azure vs GCP on Your Resume (What Job Postings Ask For)
In 8,991 live postings, AWS leads among engineers, but GCP and Azure still show up enough that picking a 'winner' is the wrong resume move. Mirror the posting's cloud.
Candidates still argue about which cloud to learn. Job descriptions do not. In our 15 August 2026 snapshot of 8,991 public postings, AWS is ahead — and the other two are still common enough to miss you if you guess wrong:

Among 2,367 engineering / data / ML roles, the gap is clearer: AWS 23%, GCP 15%, Azure 11%. AWS “won” the count. The ATS still wants the one in the JD.
Remote vs hybrid is not the same bet
Remote engineering postings in this corpus mention AWS more than the others (AWS 27%, GCP 16%, Azure 11%). Hybrid postings mention all three at high rates (AWS 34%, GCP 21%, Azure 17%) — typical of companies that list a full multi-cloud stack in the requirements block. Onsite-heavy listings mention cloud less often at all.
That mix is why a single “AWS-first” resume underperforms on Azure- or BigQuery-native DE roles. In the DE skill ranking, AWS, Azure, and GCP each appear in about 16–17% of Data Engineer JDs; BigQuery itself is in 20%.
How to write cloud on a resume
- Lead with the posting’s cloud. If they say GCP, your summary says GCP even if you have more years on AWS. You can keep AWS in the skills block if it is real.
- Name services, not just the vendor. “AWS (ECS, RDS, SQS)” matches how JDs are written. Bare “AWS” is a weak match for a posting that repeats Lambda and IAM.
- Do not list all three as equals unless you have shipped on all three. Three clouds with no service names looks like certification farming.
- Pair cloud with the work. Data roles: warehouse + cloud (BigQuery/Snowflake/Redshift). Platform roles: Kubernetes + Terraform + cloud. See in-demand tech skills for how often those travel together.
DevOps JDs are the exception
In 136 DevOps / platform postings, Kubernetes (60%), AWS (49%), and Terraform (49%) are the cluster. If that is your target, an AWS+Terraform+K8s skills block is not a cliché — it is the JD. Still swap in Azure/GCP when the posting does.
